Retaining Wall Grid

1. Prep

  1. On jobsite location it is vital that first layer of wall grid is at lowest point of grade!
  2. Select position of retaining wall and mark out wall dimensions (face, back & ends).
  3. From lowest point of grade, excavate footer 2” down & 3’ back into hill to a level base of virgin soil.
  4. Compact sub-grade.

2. Layout

  1. Install first level of wall grid. This will dictate the shape of your wall. Colored face side must be exposed. (Note: If wall length requires more than 1 piece, a connection is necessary. To connect, align pre-manufactured holes at end of each piece. Insert plastic rivet & snap together.)
  2. Expand cells of wall grid by holding one end & pulling front-to-back. Use 12-14” pieces of rebar to hold open at front & back cell. Nail rebar piece in front end cell and expand open and nail rebar piece in back end cell. Nail rebar pieces in all front & back cells to other end.
  3. Check level. (Note: Wall grid must be level before stabilizing!!)

 3. Stabilize

  1. Backfill 1-2” over tops of cells. (Note: Clean, sandy soil gives best results.)
  2. Remove all rebar.
  3. Compact soil using hand tamper. Ensure all loose soil is compacted completely.
  4. Level soil to top of wall grid.

4. Repeat

When installing next level, expand by centering front cell with weld of previous level as this creates the staggered effect for planting.

 5. Plant

Upon completion, select suitable planting materials for insides of cells.
